Are you...
Someone looking to major in nursing?
A college student currently in pre-nursing?
So was I!
Or someone who got accepted into a nursing program?
In the spring semester of 2018, I started my own adventure into nursing school. It was exciting, it was intense, it was terrifying, and it was, without a doubt, the best worst time of my life.
Through all the experiences I've had, the friends I've made, and the exceptional nurses I've been taught by, I've learned lots of things along the way that can help you get through nursing school and how to prepare for the difficulties you may experience.
Nurse In Progress is a blog created by me, a former nursing student, to teach you, a "nurse in progress," the things to look for when selecting a nursing program.
Now, I did not complete nursing school. In fact, I left the program when I was more than halfway through with it to pursue another major. With the addition of retaking a semester, I've gone through 4 1/2 semesters of my school's accelerated 1-year BSN program and did my clinical rotations at 3 different hospitals. So, this isn't me sharing advice based on only one or two semesters; this is me sharing all the insights I've collected from my overall experience, the things I wish I knew beforehand, what my school could have improved on, and what I've found online, from articles to research journals, to support my suggestions. Although I left, it doesn't mean I lost the things I gained from my experience in nursing school.
I want you, the "nurse in progress," to succeed and do better than I ever did in nursing school. There is nothing worse than going into something unknown without any support. The first step is finding a nursing school that provides this support. But as someone who has been in your position, I can assure you that by choosing a nursing program that considers students' workload, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and provides resources both in the classroom and in clinicals, you'll be better prepared to earn that "RN" title to your name.
